Young Artists Brighten Haverfordwest Station in Wide Partnership Project

Passengers arriving at and departing from Haverfordwest Railway Station are being greeted by a splash of colour after a broad community partnership delivered new youth artwork and physical improvements to one of the county town's key entry points.

The project brought together an unusually wide range of partners: South West Wales Connected, Pembrokeshire County Council's Youth Justice and Regeneration teams, The Edge Youth Centre, construction firm Kier, Transport for Wales, Dyfed-Powys Police, The VC Gallery, Haverfordwest Action Forum and several local artists.

The improvements included cleaning and refurbishment of the station waiting area and public facilities, carried out by Kier as part of the wider Welsh Government-funded Haverfordwest Public Transport Interchange scheme. An unused building on Platform 2 was also cleaned and prepared to display the new artwork.

Art Funded, Youth Focused

The art installations themselves were funded through the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund, making the project a rare example of multiple funding streams being stitched together to deliver a visible public benefit. Youth-produced work now features in the waiting area and on the Platform 2 building alongside pieces by professional local artists.

Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services at Pembrokeshire County Council, welcomed the outcome, saying it was great to see art and culture brought to people rather than requiring them to seek it out, and noting Pembrokeshire's strong tradition of young people creating public art.

The station improvements are designed to create a more welcoming and connected environment for both residents and visitors, and sit within a broader ambition to regenerate key gateways into Haverfordwest — linking the railway station with the new Public Transport Interchange currently under construction nearby.
